(Université constantine 3 Salah boubnider,Faculté de médecine., 2018) Benrachid, Dallel; Bit Messaoud, Zineb; Djebli, Imane; Gherib, Mahbouba; Khellaf, Ibtisem; Korichi, Rahma; Smahi, Sarra; Tahar, Sara; Encadré par: Pr. Nezzal, Malika
Abstract Introduction: Self-medication is a practice increasingly promoted in today’s society. It is justified by the economic environment, medical demography and the need to empower patients. But it can be dangerous if it was misused .This work aims to evaluate self-medication among patients consulting the three services (periodontics, oral pathology and surgery, conservative odontology) of Constantine dentistry department. Material and methods: survey conducted from 08 April to 03 May 2018 with 110 patients. Information was collected by investigators using an interrogation. Results: 77% of our population have a recourse to self-medication, this behaviour is more common among women 75 (66%), people in age of 20-30 years old 33(30%), people with no chronic diseases 77 (70%) and secondary level 46 (57%). Discussion: the main causes for self-medication are the lack of money, habits, extension of medical information, which makes the patients sure of their choices and judgments about health without the advice of a health specialist. Conclusion: Types of educational actions “brief interventions” with a reminder of the proper use of self-medication drugs are considered in a consultation and the dispensary. Physicians and pharmacists have to work together to promote the good usage of these drugs would be desirable.
