Abstract : The sickle cell anaemia was discovered by James Harrick in 1904. It is a recessive autosomal hemoglobinopathy characterized by the mutation of the gene B globin resulting in the production of an abnormal haemoglobin HBS. It is the most common genetic disease in the world, Africa, South America, India, the Maghreb and the Middle East. Clinically, the disease emerges with acute anaemic episodes and vaso-occulusive strokes, which may cause several complications that, affect the patients’ quality of life. The treatment is multidisciplinary, in odontology the practitioner must ensure that the acute situations and the regular monitoring of patients are under control. This can be achieved by the implementation of a protocol and a specific program to minimize the complications and to improve the quality of life of the patients.
