Abstract: | Senna or Senna Alexandrina is a medicinal plant known for its laxative properties. In this study, we evaluated the laxative effect of three different extracts in vivo: hydrosol, vegetable oil, and aqueous extract of its powder. Qualitative and quantitative analyses revealed that these extracts contain a variety of distinct active chemical compounds. With a high concentration of sennosides, the vegetable oil showed significant laxative activity compared to the other forms tested and the reference laxative. The aqueous extract exhibited significant laxative activity comparable to that of the reference laxative at a dose of 200 mg/kg. Additionally, our in-silico analyses revealed a strong affinity of the major compounds of Senna for the c-kit receptor involved in constipation. The hydrophobic interactions observed during molecular docking explain the stability of these complexes in the active site of this receptor. In summary, Senna vegetable oil appears to be a promising solution for treating constipation, offering an effective alternative to conventional laxative |
