Pomegranate peels play an important role in a number of areas, including health and beauty. The purpose of our work was to develop a water-resistant sunscreen cream and a mouth paint from the extract of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) peels. The extract was prepared by hydro-alcoholic extraction to recover phenolic compounds; powerful antioxidants. Using the three-factor Box-Behnken design, extraction was optimized. The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiongic and photoprotective activities of the extract were evaluated. The formulation of a water resistant sunscreen was optimized using the simplex lattice design. A mouth paint was formulated to treat inflammatory mouth disorder. An ethnobotanical study on the use of plant-based cosmetics was carried out in the Constantine-Algeria region. The results showed that these wastes are a rich source of bioactive compounds that can be valorised in innovative cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations. The sunscreen cream and mouth paint developed demonstrated interesting properties and met the expected quality criteria.en_US
