This work compares the isothermal vapor compression cycle with the reversible adiabatic compression cycle, using the two refrigerants R717 and R134a. Simulation and optimization of both types of cycle is carried out using EES software, taking into account specific operating conditions. System analysis provided thermodynamic cycle characteristics such as coefficient of performance (COP) and refrigeration capacity. Isothermal compression showed superiority over reversible adiabatic compression, especially with R 717 (ammonia), which showed remarkable interest. Consequently, it is recommended to opt for the isothermal compression refrigeration machine when the working fluid is a fluid that heats - the case of ammonia, which is a natural fluid, environmentally friendly and more efficient than R134a.en_US
