Abstract: The degradation of the dye Basic Yellow 28, an organic pollutant used in the textile industry, was carried out using advanced oxidation processes in an artificial light pilot reactor. Three combinations were evaluated: UV/NaClO, UV/potassium sulfate and UV/zinc oxide. The efficiency of the UV/NaClO process was analyzed in terms of degradation kinetics, removal rate and optimum operating conditions. The role of free radicals in the degradation process was clearly demonstrated. These processes offer sustainable approaches to the treatment of colored water. Interesting prospects are emerging for industrial-scale applications
