| Abstract: | This study aims to valorize certain medicinal plants, namely licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) as an active ingredient, and mint (chlorophyll), rose buds (cyanidin), beetroot (betanin), paprika (capsanthin), and carrot root (beta-carotene) as natural colorants, for use in the formulation of lip balm. This project was motivated by the increasing demand for organic cosmetic products that combine effectiveness and skin-friendliness. We began by preparing licorice macerate as well as powdered and oily colorants. This was followed by physicochemical characterization and biological activity testing of the licorice macerate. The antioxidant activity of the licorice macerate was revealed through DPPH and phenanthroline tests, while the disk diffusion method was used to determine its antibacterial activity. Additionally, its photoprotective activity was evaluated. The results encouraged us to proceed with the formulation of the lip balm. We started by optimizing the amount of beeswax to achieve the ideal formulation for a high-quality lip balm. After optimizing the formulation, an evaluation of the formulated lip balms was planned, focusing on stability, melting point, irritation tests, etc. |
