Abstract: Conventional distillation processes, particularly used to produce rose water and essential oils, have two major drawbacks: excessive water consumption due to continuous flow cooling, and imprecise thermal control. These shortcomings not only impact the quality of the distillate but also result in significant water waste. Addressing this issue, this study aims to improve the traditional distillation system by integrating an external cooling system based on a coil heat exchanger operating in a closed circuit. This modification optimizes cooling efficiency while significantly reducing water consumption compared to the conventional system. The proposed system includes a water tank equipped with a pump that recirculates water to the upper part of the still. Cooling can also be enhanced with ice cubes or cold water. The performance of this system was evaluated by monitoring temperature changes during the distillation process. The results demonstrated high thermal stability and good control over distillation conditions, making this system particularly suitable for small industries and craftspeople seeking more economical and sustainable solutions.
