Abstract: Achieving a functionally and aesthetically integrated proximal restoration is a daily challenge for all dentists due to the anatomical and functional features of the interproximal area. Successful restoration of the proximal wall requires proper compliance with functional and biological requirements. Obtaining a properly positioned and tonic contact point requires a good knowledge of the required instruments, the materials available at the markets and their current updates, and the different restoration techniques (direct and indirect) and their indications. The objectives of our modest work are: - Describe the anatomy of the interproximal area. - To clarify the physiology of the interproximal zone and its importance. - To present the principles and means for a decent proximal restoration. - Demonstrate the basic clinical steps through clinical cases carried out at the conservative dentistry/endodontics department Constantine‟s university hospital ( C.H.U). This work is a literature review supplemented by a clinical case carried out in the department of conservative dentistry/endodontics. Proximal restoration meeting the required criteria prevents food stuffing, inflammation of the inter-dental septum and provides comfort to the patient.en_US
