ABSTRACT The substantial rise in the number of diabetics prompts the medical professionals to seriously look into this chronic disease that requires a good multidisciplinary management. In fact, nowadays, we cannot ignore the orofacial sphere: the oral cavity being not only reflective of numerous general pathologies but also a gateway for oral conditions that can affect diabetes. Our study consists of a prospective transversal epidemiologic investigation carried out on 30 patients treated at the pathology and oral surgery department at Benbadis University Hospital in Constantine. The patients are aged between 7 and 75 years old, without any gender/ethnicity selection.  The diabetes durationas defined by the number of years starting from the date when the condition was discovered to the date of oral examination ranges from less than a year (a few months) minimum to 37 years maximum. Out of the examined diabetic patients, 10% have had this condition for less than 2 years as 92% have had it for more than 2 years.  Our results obtained from the investigated diabetics show:  An unbalanced diabetes in 60% of patients  Poor oral hygiene in 97% of patients  73% of our sample population shows general health problems  Periodontal diseases present the highest percentage of oral pathologies.  In fact, all these factors have an influence on woundhealing; this has been confirmed by our study results revealing that 30% of our sample population heals after 3 weeks or more.  Therefore, it is important that dental surgeons know the risk factors well in order to better take care of diabetics.en_US
