Abstract : The anterior open bite is a malocclusion characterized by the absence of vertical contacts between the teeth of the two anterior arches. It is considered to be one of the most difficult abnormalities to treat due to its multifactorial etiology, which may be genetic whose disturbance is at the level of the bone bases, or functional by environmental factors such as macroglossia, lingual lingual brakes and obstruc-tion. upper airways; generating skeletal and functional open bites respectively. There are also the combined forms where the patient has both etiologies at the same time. Their clinical and cephalometric diagnosis is very important because of different therapeutic approaches ranging from functional rehabilitation and elimina-tion of para-functions, to orthodontic treatment by ingressions of the posterior teeth and incisal égression, or for the most severe cases; ortho-surgical treatment is in-dicated. The post-therapeutic stability is rather delicate because of the relapse of anterior open bite, hence the need for a restraint either removable as the Hawley plate or fixed as inter-maxillary elastics with a good cooperation of the patient.en_US
