Summary Introduction: one of the obligations of the dentist in this field is to consider the evaluation of the benefit/risk ratio of a medication and to inform the patient in order to obtain their informed consent. However, it is important to consider that excessive prescribing or deprescribing of medications can lead to short-term or long-term side effects. Objective: the objective of our study as to evaluate the modalities of drug prescription among dentists in OC/E. Materials and methods: this was a descriptive and comparative cross-sectional study conducted using a questionnaire. We collected a total of 123 dentists from the private and public sectors, including specialists and general practitioners, from the eastern region of Algeria (Constantine, Skikda, Jijel, Tébessa, and Mila), and their respective municipalities between January 3, 2023, and May 5,2023. Data entry and statistical analysis were performed using the software SPSS and Microsoft Excel. Results: Based on our study conducted on a sample of 123 dentists, we found that a large number of them followed the general recommendations regarding the prescription of the studied medications. However, we also identified cases of non-compliance with respect to indications and dosages, particularly for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, and anxiolytics. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary for the dentist to be aware of current recommendations and to understand all the characteristics of the prescribed medications and their adverse effects in order to achieve quality therapy.en_US
