Abstract: | Water is a natural resource essential to the sustainability of life on our planet. With the rapid development of industries, wastewater containing dyes and organic pollutants from the dye industry has become an increasing global environmental risk. Heterogeneous photocatalysis, an advanced photochemical oxidation technique, is one of the techniques, which has given encouraging results in the field of industrial water pollution control. It has the advantage of oxidizing many water contaminants. This work aims to test the effectiveness of photo catalytic techniques in the process of decolorization of an RC dye in aqueous media in a heterogeneous phase using two catalysts, ZnO and a new catalyst, which we synthesize. The results obtained revealed a maximum RC decolorization rate of 82% for ZnO and 98.83% for new catalyst. Data analysis using the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model showed that pseudo first-order kinetics provide a better representation for both catalysts. An optimization of the parameters influencing the photo degradation of RC dye under the operating conditions for a minimum RC concentration are, the catalysis mass (ZnO) of 1g, the initial RC concentration of 30 mg/l and pH at the 11. |
