Abstract: The objective of this study is to design an innovative magnetic adsorbent (MAC) from a conventionally modified biomass-based adsorbent (CAC) and to evaluate the efficiency of these two adsorbents for the removal of Rhodamine B (RhB). The MAC was prepared by coprecipitation in a basic medium in a solution of FeCl₃ and FeSO₄. The impacts of various operational parameters such as contact time, pH, salt effect, and temperature were studied. The results demonstrated that magnetic activated carbon is an effective adsorbent for removing RhB from aqueous solutions, with a removal rate reaching 99.12% for an initial concentration of 100 mg/L, compared to a removal rate of 95% for CAC at the same concentration. Experimental data suggest that equilibrium adsorption is best represented by the Langmuir model, highlighting RhB adsorption on a homogeneous monolayer of the adsorbent. Furthermore, the adsorption kinetics follow the pseudo-second-order model. This study makes a significant contribution to water pollution control technologies, highlighting the potential of magnetic activated carbon adsorption as a promising strategy to achieve environmental goals.
