This project combines a dual approach, both sociological and experimental to assess the level of awareness about omega fatty acids among the Algerian population (students and pharmacists), and to develop a sustainable method for producing omegas from microalgae. Omega fatty acids, particularly omega-3 and omega-6, play a vital role in human health by helping to prevent cardiovascular, inflammatory, and neurodegenerative diseases. They are widely used in nutrition, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. Traditionally, omegas are derived from marine or plant-based sources; however, microalgae especially certain species like Chlorella offer a promising alternative due to their high content of essential lipids. This project explores the cultivation of microalgae on alternative media, such as wastewater from slaughterhouses (blood), which are rich in nutrients. This approach aims to reduce production costs while valorizing an abundant organic waste. The methodology includes physicochemical analyses of the media, optimized cultivation protocols, and extraction techniques such as centrifugation and ultrasonication to efficiently recover lipids. The entire process from wastewater collection to fatty acid extraction demonstrates an innovative, eco-friendly, and economically viable strategy for the local production of high-value omegas. These are formulated into various innovative products: energy soda, children’s juice, nutritional powder, and gummy treats.en_US
